This is one of our newest signs, and probably my favorite. I came across this in the verse Jeremiah 31:3 and it just struck me. I told Loren, we need to put that on a sign. So we sat down like we always do when we design a sign and debated what looked the best. This was probably the first design we came up with but neither of us liked it so we kept changing it up. Finally we just gave up and went back to the first version. By the end of the evening my creativity just wants to give up so Im like just do it and hopefully it will look good on the sign. When Loren was all done painting it he came up and showed me and we both LOVED it.
It got me thinking how many things in life do we over think, over analyze, or worry to much about. How many times do we miss the true beauty of life because we are off trying to change something that is beautiful the way it is? How many times do we miss the beauty of God’s creation or miss hearing God’s soft whispers to us because we are to busy? Something that seems so unimportant or boring may be God trying to speak to us. To tell us that its ok, don’t get worked up, life is to short, see the simple beauties in life.
It also got me thinking how often do we do this to ourselves? See the “first version” and say thats ugly, thats bad, I am going to try and change that. Then we pour so much energy into trying to change ourselves, to be a better person because we think that who God made us isn’t good enough? While God is looking down at us saying “but I love you with an everlasting love, don’t try and change who you are. You are fearfully and wonderfully made.” When we think we aren’t good enough, its almost like telling God we don’t think he did a good enough job creating us. So instead of exerting so much energy into changing ourselves, pour that energy into building upon the talents God has given us. Find out the unique spiritual gifts God has given to YOU and use them! We are each given a special gift from God and he doesn’t want us comparing it to someone else’s.
For me its good to take a step back…maybe quite a few steps back to the basics, to the simple things of life. Dwelling on things like Jesus’ love for me, a walk on the beach, a starry warm summer night, the excitement of creating something new, and the sound of birds chirping outside makes all the noise and anxiety that satan throws at me just kind of disappear for awhile. I challenge you to find those simple moments and dwell on them just a little bit more!
