Lately I have challenged myself to de-clutter my mind and really look around at life. I began to see just how much I was missing out on before. All the simple little things in life are truly beautiful. When life gets busy, when we have a bad attitude, when we begin to complain, we can miss out on all life’s little joys.
“The moments we enjoy most as they unfold, and that we treasure long afterward, are the ones we experience most deeply. Depth roots us in the world, gives life substance and wholeness. It enriches our work, our relationships, everything we do. It’s the essential ingredient of a good life and one of the qualities we admire most in others.” -William Powers.
When I slowed down and took a moment to take my priorities off of the chaos in life, I realized something. It makes you happier, more content, and more productive. I tend to be one that is always on the go, not wanting to slow down for a break. When I had this mindset I missed all the beauty around me. I would become too impatient with life to enjoy all it’s blessings. Instead of enjoying a weekend with the family, I would worry about how soon it was going to be over. I tried to cram as much of my own “joy” into the moments that I missed out on life’s natural joy.
When we are not rooted in our experiences because our minds are too cluttered, or we don’t take the time to acknowledge life as it unfolds, we will look back on life when we are older and wonder where it went. Instead of remembering a life full of simple joys we will only have the reminder of a constant battle against chaos. The moment we are living in right now, the battle we are facing seems like it will be here forever. But the truth is that the years go by way to quickly. There will always be something to battle against. So amidst the battle take time to stop and notice the beauty. You won’t be sorry you did.
