Have you ever heard the saying that no job is perfect? It is so true. We will always find something we don’t like about our job. No matter how much we love something, there will be things we don’t like about it. So how do we find contentment in an imperfect job?
1. Make a list of all the positives.
Write out all the things you love about your job. When you are tempted to complain just look at the list. Say “I love my job because…” So often we can overlook the beautiful things because our mind is to busy looking at the negatives.
2. Do something you love.
Find a career you are passionate about. Maybe you are in a career that you like but don’t love. Try and fill the void that it may leave by doing something else randomly on the side. Loren loves physical labor. His day job is not physical. So he fills that void by doing side work.
3. Keep learning.
Don’t stop learning about your job. Strive to do the best you can. If you stop learning about it, you won’t reach your full potential. If you get stuck just doing average, you may miss out on something amazing.
4. Be willing to serve.
Do your job with a joyful spirit. I think most jobs require service of some kind. Don’t do it with a grumbly attitude. By changing your attitude you can change the situation. Don’t become offended at someone else if they are grumpy toward you. It will only suck your joy and energy away. Instead be kind back to them.
5. Believe in what you are doing.
If you don’t believe in what you are doing, it is going to be very had to be good at it. Look at the positives and what you do like about your job. Really focus on them and magnify them.
6. Do your best and leave God the rest.
Don’t do things in your job just to get noticed. Do your best because it is right. If you are constantly seeking to be noticed you will become annoyed when you don’t get what you think you deserve. Sometimes it may feel like you can’t do something good enough. Just do what you can and trust God to help you.
7. Consider finding a new job.
After you have done all the above and you really don’t feel you are where you are supposed to be, don’t be afraid to look around. Don’t just get fed up and quite instantly. Try to make it work, but if you gave 100% of your efforts and still don’t feel like this is the job for you, look around. Pray for God to open a door to a job where you can really shine.
Scripture to ponder:
Colossians 3:23 “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not unto men;”

Pick a few of the above that you may struggle with and try and focus on changing it this week.
