I really love supporting things that go for a great cause. I wanted to share with you a few things that have been on my heart lately.
Have you heard of the Loving Shepherd Ministries Etsy shop?!? Last year when Loren went to Haiti he went through Loving Shepherd Ministries. They are doing some great things down in Haiti! They also are doing awesome things in Ethiopia. In January they opened an Etsy shop filled with purses made by Ethiopian women. LSM focuses on rescuing women and their children from a life of prostitution by giving them vocational training. You can read more about it here. The money made from these purses goes to the awesome women in Ethiopia making the purses! Not only are you supporting a great cause by purchasing a purse, you are also getting a extremely unique item! I purschased two purses from this shop and love them! I encourage you to hop over and check them out! They have more links you can click on from their Etsy shop to learn even more!
The second awesome thing I am participating in is an auction to help raise money for a couple to adopt a child from Haiti! On March 2 Joyfully Ruined is hosting an auction of some incredibly awesome handmade items! I am donating a wallet for the auction. Swing by and check out all the other fun things to buy to help this great cause! Loren and I were just talking about how much love and attention Kina gets every day. It breaks our hearts that there are so many children out there who don’t have moms and dads to love on them. Loren got to experience Haiti first hand and all the children without loving homes. So this is dear to our hearts and it is so exciting to help someone make a difference in a child’s life!
And one other ministry that has my heart. Very much related to children without love. Have you heard of Amazima? It is an amazing ministry over in Uganda providing education, medical help, vocational oppurtuities, and so much more. You can read all about it here. Last summer I read the book Kisses From Katie. Not only was it an eye opener on all the heart ache over in Uganda, it also really convicted me to be completely surrendered to God’s will. If you haven’t read it, I highly recommend it. I didn’t reliaze that so many of the orphanages over there have children that have parents. Their parents can’t afford them so they would drop them off at an orphanage. Part of what Amazima does is provide financial support for children in these situations so they can be fed, clothed, and educated so they can stay with their parents. I think that is pretty awesome!
You guys check it out! There is some pretty awesome stuff going on. It is easy for me to get boxed in my own little world here. It does my heart good to get outside that and see all the hurt out there. To see how I can help a little of that hurt go away. We are called to be stewards of God’s money, to be lights in this world. We in America are incredibly blessed with money. If you make $30,000 a year you are in the top 2% income earners in the world. You guys that is crazy! Where is your heart leading you? Maybe it isn’t one of these ministries. Maybe it is something else. Wherever it is, I encourage you to bless someone else today! To use your talents and money to glorify God!
