My sweet Kina-
Days keep going by. Here I am writing you another letter! I really wish I could find the pause button. I am so so loving this stage you are in right now. You are still little and cuddly but you are learning and growing so much. You make us laugh every single day, your little smile melts our hearts, and somehow you continue to make us love you more and more. I don’t think it’s possible to love you any more than we already do, but somehow it keeps happening!
Naps: It has been very random. Anywhere between a 30min nap to a 2 hour nap 3 times a day.
Feeding: Bottle feeding every 4 hours and eating around 6 ounces each time. You started solids at around 4 1/2 months.
Clothing: Some 0-3 month and 3-6 month.
Eating: You usually eat every 4 hours and it has been usually 6 ounces each time. Unless its before bed, then you usually eat 8 ounces. We started you on solids this month. I know we were supposed to try and hold off until 6 months, but you were just so interested. Whenever we would eat you would just watch us, then you would smack your lips like you wanted some. Daddy even teased you a few times acting like he was going to feed you. You were pretty disappointed. When we actually did feed you, it was attack mode! You just gobbled the cereal right down like it was the greatest thing ever! You have also eaten peas, squash, sweet potato, and green beans. Every-time we fed you peas you made this awful face, but then would eat it anyway. It was pretty funny. You absolutely loved the squash! I keep trying to hide my breast milk in things to get you to eat it. I tried it in cereal, you gagged and spit it out. So I have been mixing 1 ounce breast milk to 5 ounces formula. You usually eat that fine. I am determined to use up what is stored in the freezer!
Sleeping: The middle of the night sleeping has gotten much much better. But the day time napping has been a struggle. At night you usually go to bed around 7-8 and wake up at 7 most every morning. Normally you wake up once in that time to eat. It has gotten so much better. We just change your diaper, feed you, and then put you back to bed. You will fall asleep on your own. The record time is 9min start to finish! Much much better than 1 1/2 hours the previous month. You did go through a couple day stretch just recently when it was back to waking up more and staying up more. But it was right before you started rolling from your back to your belly, so I wonder if that made the difference. I have heard when babies hit development milestones it can disrupt sleep. On to napping. Where did the two hour naps go?!? You usually wake up 30 to 40 min into a nap. Most of the time you won’t go back to sleep. Half the time you are grumpy so its back to the crib shortly after getting up. Oh well, the nights are so much better so its all good!
Development: I feel like you have made a huge change in this last month! I can see teeth trying to pop through, its like they are just stuck because they have been just visible but not through for quite awhile now. You really love playing with toys. One evening when we were feeding you some solids, you dropped your elmo toy before we started. You could hardly eat, you kept looking for your toy. Finally we set it up on the table so you could see it. Problem solved, you finished your meal no problem! You are just so very aware of everything and so intentional. You analyze and study everything. I can just see your little wheels turning! Just recently you started rolling from your back to your tummy. Like when you learned to roll from your tummy to back, you do it any chance you get! I lay you down, and bam you are on your belly. Then you get mad so I flip you. Instantly you are over again. I think you are really close to sitting now also. You can hang onto my finger and just sit and sit. You think you are pretty big stuff!
A few things you are loving right now:
-Blowing bubbles in your bottle. You also like to blow bubbles in your spit. It is quite funny.
-Touching things. You love touching faces, soft blankets/sweaters/etc, anything shinny. You just study things and can’t help but touch it.
-Still loves to “help”. Help feed yourself solids, help mommy while she is looking on her phone, etc!
-You love when daddy holds you overhead to do “airplane”!
-Your jumper. You run and bounce and spin. It is so cute to watch.
A few things your not to fond of:
-Being out of the loop. You love to know what’s going on!
Overall you have been pretty happy and not to much has bothered you lately.
A few things you are teaching us:
-How fast time really goes. I can’t hardly believe you are 5 months old. I think seeing a child grow and develop makes us realize how fleeting time really is.
Moments I don’t want to forget:
– The way you love holding my hand.
– The way you sound like a hound dog whenever you are trying to decide if you want to cry or suck your paci.
Each month I keep wondering how you are going to make us laugh more, love you more, or surprise us more. But you somehow exceed all of those things and then some. We can’t hardly get enough of your cuddles and smiles. You keep us on our toes, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. You are so very loved little girl!
I love the way you love holding my hand. I love the way your sound like a hound dog whenever you are trying to decide if you want to cry or suck your paci.
