Awhile ago I saw this fun mug that I really liked. As you may know I kinda like sewing 🙂 What better way to drink your drinks than from a fun cup right? I decided I could probably make my own instead of buying it. I had a white mug laying around and I bought some cheap tumblers on Amazon to get started. For the lettering I bought silhouette glossy permanent vinyl and to add a little glitter I got Martha Stewart acrylic glitter paint. I saw one post on making a mug dishwasher safe on Pinterest, they used iron on vinyl, but the first comment I read said I washed off in the dishwasher. The thought of trying to make it dishwasher safe really appealed to me, but I didn’t want to buy all that stuff just to have it fail. So I stuck with permanent vinyl used on tumblers sold on Etsy. They arn’t dishwasher safe, but I know it works for hand washing if Etsy sellers use it!
Since I have a Silhouette machine I just cut my design out on that. I found the sewing machine and needle in the Silhouette design store. If you don’t have either of the machines, that is fine I still did this kinda stuff before I had one. I would print my design out on normal paper from microsoft word and then trace it to whatever I was using. Cut it out with an exacto knife and your done! It is more work and you can’t do as intricate of designs, but hey it still works if you have the time! If you type in ______ silhouette in google then click images, you can find a lot of fun images to print off and trace!
Using a pin and tweezers I placed my design on the mug and tumbler. Using a tweezer makes placing your letters and design easier and more accurate! The pin was to make it easier to grab the design from the mat.
Your done! Let your masterpiece sit for around 24 hours to let it cure. Happy Sipping!
I have hand washed these babies quite a few times now and they are still going strong. I have not attempted dishwasher. 🙂
