So awhile ago I got it in my head to make our family picture outfits. Funny thing is, I don’t really love shopping for clothes and putting combos together. But I love fabric shopping and pinterest surfing. I love being able to type in color schemes and see what other people put together. When I finally decided on how I wanted our outfits to coordinate the next task was buying the fabric and deciding on patterns. I originally decided for Loren’s shirt I was just going to wing it, going off of one of his ready made shirts. I really didn’t want to fork over $18.00 on a mens button up pattern, but I also wasn’t looking forward to putting it all together by myself, but hey you do what you got to do right? Well then Joanne’s had a sale on the McCall patterns, a whopping 99 cents! Yes please! I bought the McCall’s M6044 pattern and got to work.
It came together really nice and I am pretty proud of the finished product. However, I LOVE all you independent pattern makers much better! I am not a huge fan of the commercial patterns I guess. Trust me I learned some pretty cool techniques from it, but I also skipped steps that I really didn’t feel were necessary. I just like the real-ness of buying from designers that I can actually interact with if I want. I don’t really know how to say it other than, using commercial patterns really isn’t my thing.
I was excited to see how to button placket came together. I haven’t really sewn clothes with button plackets, or zippers. So that was fun to try out! I need to brave the waters of zipper next!
