Start by measuring your child’s head. Kina’s was 18″ so I cut a piece of 15″ ribbon. You are going to want to cut the ribbon slightly less than your child’s head because we will be adding elastic onto it.
I started by drawing a small leaf like pattern piece. You can make them any size you want, just make sure they are taller than your ribbon so that doesn’t show. I traced lots of tiny little leaf petals onto the back side of the leather. I think I ended up with around 20 pieces for a 15″ space.
Then cut those babies out! You will probably have to play around with the number of leaves you cut, until they fit just how you want on your ribbon. Depending on size of leaves and the size of your child’s head, you will get different numbers of leaves. Just cut some, line them up like you want, then cut some more if need be!
Once you have the number of leaves you want, start hot glueing them to the ribbon.
Once all the leaves are glued on take cut your elastic. You will want the finished size of the headband smaller than your child’s head to keep it in place, the elastic will stretch so you can actually get it on. My finished headband was 1″ smaller than Kina’s head. Again, play around with it and see what suits you. You can always cut some off so ere on the bigger side. Then sew or hot glue (both will work, sewing will hold up better), the ends of the elastic to the ends of the head band. You are done! A simple project but oh so cute!
