I designed this series for a beginner, but I wanted to share with you a few rescourses if you want to dive into making your own patterns. This is a little ambitious if you have never sewn clothes before, but when I think about it, that is pretty much what I did! I had barely made two garments before I bought Pattern Workshop. I may dive in a little too deep, but I learn from it and it works for me. So if you are like me here’s a few resources to get you started making your very own patterns!
This is an EXCELLENT course on digitally drafting patterns through Adobe Creative Cloud. The two garments I self drafted, were the old fashioned way on paper. When I took this class I was blown away by how awesome drafting patterns can be if done digitally! It is worth every penny and I highly recommend it if you are serious about making your own patterns. Lauren Dahl did an awesome job at putting it together!
Metric Pattern Cutting for Women’s Wear. This book is an excellent resouce for drafting patterns. There is also a men’s wear and children’s wear available.
How to Make Sewing Patterns. This book walks you through getting the perfect fit and how to make patterns.
Pattern Making for Kids’ Clothes– This is a great resource, but I would couple it with the Metric Pattern Cutting for Kids, if you are wanting to create digital patterns.
Drafting from Ready to Wear– I have taken this class and it’s great if you want to draft a pattern from one of your ready to wear garments that you just love!
