I am excited to release my very first garment sewing pattern! Flower Stripe Dress and Top is a modern but modest kimono style garment. The loose fit makes it both comfortable and flattering, while the tabbed sleeves add a classy flare. Flower Stripe can be made in woven or knit, leaving a wide array of options at your finger tips. It can be made into either a dress or a shirt, with either a straight hem, or a dramatic high low hem. You can choose to leave it loose and flowy or add elastic for a fitted waist effect. The options are endless for this wardrobe staple!
Back in March I decided I wanted to not only start sewing clothes, I wanted to design patterns. I enrolled in Pattern Workshop by Lauren Dahl. It is an amazing class and has taught me a wealth of things! I never imagined I would love designing patterns as much as I do. In July I released my first sewing pattern, the Deluxe Wallet. I wanted to wet my feet with something I had been sewing for a couple years already. With one pattern done, I decided to start on my first garment pattern.
Meet Flower Stripe. I wanted something that was modest, stylish, comfortable, and versatile! I love having lots of options when buying a pattern.
I designed this pattern to be high enough in the front you don’t have to worry about wearing a tank top underneath. I also designed the dress version to hit the knees on an average 5’5″ height. I know that not everyone fits into the average build. To remedy this I added shorten/lengthen lines to allow easy alterations.
Stylish and Comfortable:
The boatneck neckline, tabbed sleeves, and dramatic high low hem, add a unique and classy flair. If you prefer a more fitted look, simply follow the elastic instructions to gather in the waistline for yet another stylish look. The loose relaxed fit, no matter what version you choose, makes it so comfortable to wear.
There are many options with this pattern. You can mix and match to give you a different look each time. Choose between short sleeve and 3/4 sleeve, tabs or no tabs, high low hem or straight hem, woven or knit. Woven fabrics dress it up, where knits give it a slouchy look, leaving a more casual feel. I love wearing the woven version out on the town, and the knit for at home lounging around! You could even size down the knit version to get a more fitted look!
I couldn’t have done this without Lauren’s class or without my awesome testers! Seriously a huge, huge thank you to my testers for being patient with the different versions and helping me make this pattern so much better! I have tested patterns for others, but being on the flip side has made me very appreciative of everyone out there willing to test! I am so thankful for their feedback and support! This process took me much longer that I expected and it was a lot of work, but I loved doing it so much. I have learned a lot by making Flower Stripe, and I know the next pattern will go much faster!
The pattern is on sale right now for $10 this week. Plus, if you join The Ruffled Stitch Patterns Facebook group you will get a code for 40% off!! Flower Stripe could be yours for only $6!!
