Fall and winter are perfect for boots! I love Kina’s leather moccasins, but a girl has to have a great pair of boots right? I really love fringe, leather, and boots. What’s better than combining all those things?! I decided to use Shwin and Shwin’s free fringe boot pattern to make Kina a pair! I love the way they turned out. K is really into taking her shoes off, so she gets these off pretty easy, but when they are on, they are super cute!
This pattern only comes in one size, roughly a toddler size 5. Kina is in a size 4 ready made, so when I printed the pattern I measured it along with her foot. I decided not to alter the pattern. Instead I increased the seam allowance slightly. I wanted them to be a bit big so she could grow into them, but not too big.
I did make a few modifications to this pattern. I didn’t really like how the back was just open. So when I sewed the lining to the leather, I added a small elastic loop to the top back. When I was finished sewing the boots I added a button to the other side under the fringe. That made it so I can close the boot opening!
I also sewed the fringe piece between the lining and the leather instead of adding it last like the tutorial suggests. I just think it looks really nice and finished that way. There really is no need to do that, other than I like the look better!
As far as sewing it up, I had a little bit of trouble sewing the sole to the boot. I don’t know if my leather stretched too much or what, but the sole and boot piece didn’t seem to match up right. Maybe it was my mistake, but I did have trouble with that.
Overall I really love these boots! I love the flouncy fringe and the color matches so much! I purchased my leather from Tandy Leather.
