As you may know, I am working toward a handmade wardrobe. That not only includes me, but it also includes Loren and Kina too. Obviously my time is limited so I can’t get there as fast as I want. That means Loren’s handmade garments get put on the back burner. I try to squeeze in a garment here and there so for Christmas I decided to make him a shirt. He loves grey so I picked out a quilted knit and a solid grey knit for this shirt. I have a whopping 4 men’s patterns so choosing a pattern wasn’t that difficult 🙂 I went with Paxon by Seamwork. I really love Raglan’s and this looked like it would be a great pattern!
I took his measurements and printed the size I needed. From there I am not sure what happened. The shirt turned out too small. I was super excited for it but when I got done, I looked at it and decided it looked way too small! I was bummed. It’s always a bummer when you spend time and fabric and then it turns out different than what you were expecting. I re-checked the measurements and they fit in the size I made. I don’t know what happened! The big thing is the sleeves are too short and the shirt in general is a tad too short. It is a little bit tight across his chest and twists around his upper arm. It looks pretty goofy alone, but when you pair it with a collared shirt it makes it wearable. Still not really sure how to wear the sleeves. He either has to roll them up, which doesn’t look the greatest, or pull down his other shirt cuffs to make the sleeves long enough. I could always take off the cuff and attach a taller one to make the sleeves long enough. I am not known for getting my pile of mending/fixing done though :0.
I really do love this shirt and I think it looks fine with the collared shirt underneath. I just needs to be one size up and maybe even lengthen the sleeves more for next time. It may be awhile until there is a next time, Loren’s favorite shirt is button ups so his request for the next shirt is another button up. Plus he has been asking me to make a pair of pants for him. Sew much to do sew little time :).
