After I made K’s Easter dress, I decided she needed a super fun floral headband to go with it. Let me tell you, you need to make some for the little girls in your life. They are so easy to make! With knit fabric, since it won’t fray, you technically don’t even need to sew it. You can simply cut one rectangle and tie it. I personally think taking the extra step to sew it makes it look much more professional. Im going to share with you a quick and easy tutorial so you can make your very own.
First you will need to measure your child’s head. Or if you are making them as gifts this is a good size chart to go by.
Using your child’s head measurement, add anywhere from 6-10 inches depending on stretch of knit you are using and look you are going for.
For less stretchy knits I add 10″, if really stretchy I usually only add 6″.
This will give you the length. Now cut two rectangles that measure your determined length x 4-4.5″ wide.
Next lay right sides together and sew both long edges, and one short edge shut. Leave one short end open. Flip so band is right sides out.
Fold raw edges of the short edge in around 1/2″ and press the entire headband flat.
Topstitch both short edges, making sure to catch the raw edges when sewing the end with the opening. You technically don’t need to sew the edge that is shut, I just like them to be even looking!
Wrap it around your child’s head and tie in a double knot. Whala all done! So stinking easy! Go make one in every fabric for your little fashionista!
