I kind of want to say something like “we interrupt this content for a brief message..” You know, like you hear on the radio. This post is a little different than I am used to. It is a fashion post, but it was not sewn by me. Let me explain a little bit why I am posting a blog about clothes not sewn by me.
One reason I love sewing my clothes is because I can make anything I want while staying in my modesty guidelines. In essence, modesty is important to me. It is what has grown my love of sewing clothes even more. As much as sewing clothes is important to me, modesty is also. With fashion trends changing it can be hit or miss when shopping for modest clothing. That is why Kalsey, owner of The Skirt Outlet, started her business in 2008. She wanted to provide below the knee, long skirts to fill the void found in the market place. Since then, she has also began stocking high neck layering camis, shirts, and now a maxi dress! The Skirt outlet also provides some kids clothing as well!
Kalsey approached me recently to make a pattern for a layering tank top. It was so fun to create a pattern for a local store! Through getting to know her we thought it would be fun to do a review and a giveaway together. Being a small business owner, I have a heart for others and want to give a shout out to them so more people can learn about them! I love collaborating with other businesses owners!
For the review (I was given the dress but all opinions are my own) I chose this long maxi dress with lace detailing. I also paired a denim vest (also from The Skirt Outlet) with it for added detail. The dress itself is so soft and comfortable. It is really long, I personally prefer it to be a little shorter because well, I am clumsy and trip over excess fabric! I will most likely hem the dress an inch or so. I love the gathered empire waist, it is very flattering on many different body types.
The sleeves are detailed with a gorgeous crochet lace to add a pop of fun to the maxi. They hit just below the elbow which I love. It is the perfect length for me. I do have extremely long arms, so the length of the sleeves may be a little longer on a normal person ;).
As much as I love everything about this dress, I do however prefer a higher neckline. This totally comes form me being able to sew my own clothes though, so take this with a grain of salt. I am used to sewing my clothes with a neckline that is high enough I don’t have to wear a cami underneath for modesty. I simply prefer a neckline without a cami showing. With this dress you will need to wear a cami underneath due to the low neckline.
I love the denim vest. It is such a fun accent piece to any outfit. It can be be dressed up by the outfit, or dress down an outfit slightly depending on where you are going. This denim vest, in particular, is very comfortable. It is a stretch denim, making it soft, pliable, and so easy to wear. I love how this vest is simple leaving it to be a basic and versatile garment, in a capsule wardrobe.
You can find both of these in The Skirt Outlet in Eureka Illinois, or in their online store. If you are not local be sure to check out The Skirt Outlet online! It is your one stop shop for long skirts, and modest apparel.
