Yesterday we talked about assembling the back of version one. In today’s sew along we will talk about how to attach the front pockets to the skirt! Both versions use the same method to attach the front pockets. I am sewing a version one in this tutorial, but the steps are the same for Version 2!
Lay the pocket bag on the front of the skirt right sides together so pocket openings are matched up and the side and tops match up. Pin then stitch across the diagonal pocket opening using 1/4″ seam allowance.
Open the pocket bag and press the seam allowance up toward the bag.
Fold pocket bag toward the inside of the skirt so wrong sides are together and raw edges are enclosed and press.
Topstitch 1/4”(.6cm) away from edge. (Use topstitching thread on this step if used on the rest of the skirt)
Place pocket facing on pocket bag with right sides together, so edges match up.
**Make sure you are not stitching the pocket to the skirt. You only want to attach the pocket bag and pocket facing.**
Attach pocket facing to pocket bag by sewing around straight edges, using a 1/4” (.6cm) seam allowance.
Finish raw edges and baste the side of the pocket to the side of the skirt. Baste the entire waistline to avoid any stretching taking care that the pocket is laying flat, and not open when basting.
Repeat for other side!
