You are almost done!! Can I get a WOOT WOOT?! In the last post we assembled the waistband, today we will talk about belt loops and hemming!
If you are sewing version 1 follow along with the belt loop tutorial, for version two you can skip down to the hemming instructions!
Serge one long edge of belt loop.
Press belt loop in thirds with serged edge pressed all the way to fold on top of raw edge.
This is another visual on how to fold the belt loop. The raw edge will fold in toward the wrong side and the serged edge will fold on top enclosing the raw edges.
Topstitch 1/8” (.3cm) away from each long edge taking care to catch the serged edge in your stitching.
Cut 5 belt loops as directed in pattern. Fold narrow edge under 1/2” (1.25cm) and press. Hammer fold to make it easier to sew to skirt. Apply fray check to edges.
Attach the front two belt loops as directed in the pattern using a bar tack.
Up close view of the bar tacking. Bar tack setting are: zig zag stitch .4 length and 1.8 width.
Back belt loops attached per instructions in pattern.
To hem the Button Up Pencil skirt press 1/2″ of skirt bottom up toward wrong side.
Press another 1″ up enclosing raw edges.
Pin on the right side.
Topstitch around the entire hem 7/8″ away from folded edge.
