It’s family picture time again! I sewed our wardrobe for our family pictures last year, and had so much fun doing it I decided to do it again this year! After browsing on Pinterest for way too long, I decided to go with Black, Bronze, and Cream for our colors. I planned Loren’s shirt to be cream and black, Kina’s dress to be cream and bronze, and for me to wear a black dress. When planning a handmade wardrobe for pictures it is always a little nerve racking once everything is sewn, it won’t come together right. I decided to go with it and ordered all the fabric.
I loved all the fabric, except Loren’s shirt fabric. I was a little bummed because it turned out more white than cream. I held it up to Kina’s lace and it didn’t look too bad so I decided to go with it. Loren loved the outcome so I guess it is all good ;).
This pattern will be on repeat a TON. Loren loves button ups and they make up about 75% of his shirts. I really do love this pattern since it has quite a few different details. Each shirt I have made him so far, is slightly different. The last shirt I made was more a western style like this, but I added pocket flaps to this version. I am not sure I absolutely love the shape of the pocket flaps, so I may change them up for the next shirt.
I added a fun contrast to the cuffs, pocket flaps, and color base. I used a black and white polkadot quilting cotton and love it. Fun little touches like that makes clothes special!
For the black shirt I drafted my own from a store bought shirt he already owned. I used The Union St Tee pattern directions for the V neck. I have a post planned for this month with a tutorial on how to draft your own shirt from a ready to wear shirt. Stay tuned for that!
